How To Be Bold With Pattern

How To Be Bold With Pattern

Hello, dear design enthusiasts, I have been really enjoying the feedback from our first HOW TO blog piece.

In a world often dominated by minimalist aesthetics, embracing bold patterns can feel like a daring leap into the unknown. Yet, for those willing to step outside the confines of convention, the realm of patterns offers an exhilarating playground of creativity and expression. As a passionate advocate for vibrant design, I encourage you to give it a go. I believe that your living spaces should be a reflection of your unique personality and spirit.

Here are my top tips to set you off in the right direction:

Embrace the Joy of Pattern: Patterns are the heartbeat of my designs, and I encourage you to embrace the joy they bring to your home. Whether it's the lively florals inspired by nature or the dynamic geometric shapes, allow patterns to dance across your space. Don't be afraid to mix and match; let patterns meet in a celebration of visual cheerfulness.

Wallpaper as a Canvas for Expression: Think of wallpaper as your canvas, ready to showcase your unique expression. Choose a bold, statement-making design that you love. My wallpapers are crafted to tell a story, and by boldly adorning your walls, you're inviting that narrative into your daily life.

Embrace Imperfection: There's beauty in imperfection. Embrace the organic, handcrafted feel of artisanal patterns, where each hand made print or stitch tells a story of human craftsmanship. Celebrate the quirks and nuances that make each pattern unique, adding warmth and character to your space.

Unleash Your Creativity: I bang on about us all being creative, but I really believe we are! Dare to mix patterns with unbridled confidence. My collections offer a diverse range of designs that can effortlessly coexist. Play with scale – combine our larger scale florals with bold stripes or geometric shapes for a dynamic and visually stimulating effect. The key is to be fearless in your choices, creating a tapestry of patterns that reflect your individuality. Don’t be afraid to mix styles: I have inherited bits of furniture and art over the years and I find that the combination of them tell a very personal story that I love to reflect on. The coming together of my and Rollo’s families is the continuation of this union. Rollo and I have also collected items on our travels and we mix all of these in to the rich tapestry of our home.

The Power of Colour: Colour is a language of its own, and my designs encompass colours that bring me huge joy. Be daring with your colour choices – whether it's a burst of vibrant hues or a more subdued, sophisticated palette. Trust your instincts and let colour be the driving force behind the mood you want to create. Use bold expressive colours, even if just small pops in cushions and lampshades. Choose colours that bring you a real sense of contentment and joy, we all have very personal relationships with colour so listen to yourself. If you are unsure try adding a bolt of colour such as a red chest of drawers or even a patterned lampshade will instantly elevate a space.

Design Outside the Rule Box: Here at MM we love to be playful and creative in our homes. It can feel intimidating and brave to start, but honestly, it is extremely rewarding to see a home come together full of colour and love and interest. Remember, being bold in interior design is about embracing your personal style, taking risks, and pushing boundaries. Trust your instincts and have fun experimenting with different elements until you achieve a look that reflects the personality of you and your family.

Conclusion: In the world that often values conformity over creativity, dare to be bold with design. My fabrics and wallpapers are an invitation to unleash your creativity, play with patterns, and dance with colour. Don't be afraid to make a statement; instead, revel in the opportunity to express your unique style fearlessly. Your home is your canvas, really try and design for yourself and your family alone, give your home a soul – by doing this your will succeed in making a space you feel most yourself. Happy decorating and pattern mixing!
