MOLLY MAHON X SAHELI WOMEN

The Sun Collection

Sometimes you stumble upon something that stirs your soul and simply wont let go.

That moment came for me when I discovered the Saheli Women on Instagram. Drawn first by the vibrant colours of their saris, I quickly found myself captivated by their story - a story of empowerment, resilience, and the preservation of traditional craft.

Founded in 2015, the Saheli Women is a female-led social enterprise that empowers rural Indian women through slow fashion. They build on traditional knowledge, preserve artisanal skills, and challenge gender, caste and religious barriers. What struck me most was the palpable energy radiating from their work, rippling far beyond their walls to uplift an entire community. It’s a place filled with positivity, equality and hope.

I was moved to meet their founder, Madhu Vaishnav, and learn more about her vision. After hearing her inspiring journey, I felt compelled to visit their operation outside Jodhpur. For most of my time in India, I’ve worked alongside men, but the chance to collaborate with Madhu - a fellow ambitious, driven woman who shares my passion for handmade beauty - felt deeply significant.

Visiting the Saheli Women was like stepping into the heart of the sun. The centres they’ve created are vibrant, joyful spaces where women decorate their surroundings with happy colours, work flexible hours, and bring their children along if they wish. There’s a sense of freedom and community that is almost tangible, expressed in their laughter, chatter, and camaraderie.

As I continue to explore sustainable fabric practices, I feel deeply aligned with Madhu's belief that sustainability must centre on slow, traditional craft - methods that are kind to people and the planet. Saheli Women now supports two centres in Bhikamkor and Kali Beri, along with female health and girls' education programmes, creating opportunities that ripple across generations.

Here, work isn't just about making beautiful things - it's about creating a better future.

I am choosing to work with Saheli Women because they embody everything I aspire for my business to be: a celebration of joy, purpose and the handmade.

Their craft is infused with a sense of hope and connection, preserving traditions while embracing a brighter future. They adore and celebrate colour, transforming it into a language of meaning and emotion that goes far beyond what we often perceive. Their work is a testament to the power of community, creativity, and the happiness that comes from making something truly beautiful and purposeful.

Partnering with the Saheli Women fills me with inspiration and aligns with my vision of creating a business rooted in joy, authenticity and the preservation of craft.
