Bagru Ten Years On - A Story of Colour
Some stories stay with you. Ten years ago, Molly travelled to a small village near Jaipur and fell even more in love with a craft that would go on to shape everything we do. That village was Bagru. And this year, we are celebrating ten years since Molly's first visit and created a design that carries its name.
Where It All Began
Bagru is world famous for its centuries-old hand block printing and natural dyeing techniques, passed down through generations and still practised entirely by hand today. It was here that Molly first experienced the traditional rhythm of the craft - block, ink, cloth, repeat - and met the wonderful artisans who have kept this tradition alive for centuries.
It is a slow, considered way of making things. Every block is carved by hand. Every colour is mixed and applied by hand. No two lengths of fabric ever come out quite the same and that is exactly the point.
In a world of mass production, this kind of imperfection feels like something worth protecting. It felt only right to name one of her first designs after the place that started it all.
Ten Years, Reimagined
Bagru has long been loved in its original bold pink and blue colourways, a small scale print with a surprisingly strong presence. To mark ten years since that first visit, we are re-releasing the design in four new earthy tones: Terracotta, Moss, Turquoise and Clay on a beautiful thick base cloth.
This is not a redesign. The block, the pattern and the hand of the maker remain exactly as they always have. What has changed is the palette, softened and grounded to reflect where our eye and our homes have travelled over the past decade.
Colours Designed to Work Together
Every new Bagru colourway has been developed by Molly with the wider collection in mind. Rather than standing apart, these earthy tones have been created to layer effortlessly alongside our existing florals and signature prints, Botanica Tulip among them.
Terracotta brings a warm, muted richness. Moss draws on wild herbs and woodland walks. Turquoise captures the tranquillity of sea glass. Clay is a soft neutral inspired by natural earth pigments and sandy stone. Together, they act as a grounding foundation, a quiet base that lets bolder patterns sing while holding a room together.
This is how we like to design. Not colour for colour's sake, but colour that has a job to do within the wider story of your home.
Designed for Longevity
We design for the long term, pieces that earn their place in a home and stay there, layered and lived in, for years to come.
That is what craftsmanship gives us. When something is made slowly, by hand, with care, it carries a kind of integrity that mass production simply cannot replicate. It is why Bagru still feels as relevant today as it did ten years ago and why we believe it will still feel right in another ten.
Homes with spirit are not built overnight, and they are certainly not built by following trends. They are built with pieces that mean something, made by people who care, chosen because they tell a story rather than because they are of the moment.
Finishing Touches
Woven from a beautiful 55% linen, 45% cotton blend, Bagru has a wonderful weight and texture that only gets better with age. Every length is hand block printed, so the print carries the small, honest variations that only come from human hands.
