A celebrated British printmaker, Molly Mahon has used her appreciation of colour, passion for pattern and love of nature to create a range of stunning block printed fabrics. She absorbs her surroundings, taking inspiration from the countryside and woodlands surrounding her Sussex home and the scenery of Rajasthan.

“My life and work feel intertwined with Jaipur, both in a commercial and creative sense – its energy has gotten under my skin and into my designs. It's opened new doors of inspiration and filled my mind with countless thoughts and ideas.” – Molly Mahon.

Whilst her designs start as sketches in her notebook, the patterns are hand carved into blocks and applied to natural fabrics by expert Indian craftspeople.

“I took myself to Jaipur to further my education in the craft. Blown away by the possibility and the sheer joy of the incredible craftmanship I found there, I connected and started to work with block printers who have been passing down their artisanal skill for generations. To me they were, and still are, the real deal when it comes to pattern making.” – Molly Mahon.

Molly has previously partnered with Christies, Firmdale Hotels, Cabbages & Roses and more recently, Boden & Anthropologie. Her business was started from her kitchen table at her home in Ashdown Forest, UK but is run with her family including her husband Rollo, their children, and their dog, Bramble. Alongside fabrics and wallpaper, Molly's creations have expanded to include kitchen and dining ware, home goods, and travel accessories.

Get creative with statement curtains

Curtains add a touch of elegance to any room. They also add texture to a space, aid with the acoustics and can help create a cosy feel.

Depending on the size of the room and what it is used for, they can also contribute to the ambience of the room. For example, pastel colours like sky blue and mint green lend themselves to tranquillity whilst natural fractal patterns can also add a sense of calm. In contrast, bright colours such as orange and sunflower yellow can create an exciting atmosphere whilst large, repeating patterns can be visually stimulating.

The great thing about curtains is that you can use them to make whatever statement you want! So, whether you are looking for fabric to make posh curtains for your living room or a traditional print that will make your cottage core dreams come true, you are sure to find a  Molly Mahon curtain fabric to suit.

Mughal

The passion for the beauty of the flower in the Mughal era was primary to Indian art. Here Molly has drawn, then carved out the Mughal flower and has brought this enchanting love of the flower back to life with the hand block printing technique. It comes in three stunning colourways, Sky Indigo (as shown), Crimson Sky and Peach Sap Green.

Dianthus

Rich, earthy shades are used in this design alongside a large-scale floral pattern. The refined yet lively depiction of a dianthus bloom features distinctive two-toned fringed petals and jagged leaves. It comes in two colourful varieties, rust & rose and indigo & iron.

Marigold

This cheery fabric is an ode to one of Molly’s favourite flowers. Marigolds are a symbol of passion and creativity on the subcontinent and in India, they represent brightness and positive energy which is why they are a prominent feature in Hindu weddings. This curtain fabric is available in two beautiful colourways, yellow and pink.

Poppy

Molly admires the respected and iconic image of the poppy that was first produced by the Mughals and made a strong appearance in their artworks. Molly pays homage to this popular design with her own poppy fabric. The design shows a group of poppies with a mixture of full blooms and fledgling buds alongside the flower’s recognisable spiky leaves. It comes in three fabulous colour pairings: rose & sky, rose & grass, and mustard & sky.

Primrose

This charming design captures the essence of the primrose flower perfectly. The elegant petals are a rich indigo colour and rest on a bunch of bright, green leaves. Pale blue figures of the primrose create a backdrop for the prominent patterns and merge to give the illusion of a cloudy summer sky.

Rose

Known for their beauty and delicate scent, roses have been symbolic across cultures and countries throughout the ages. For some, they are seen as a representation of overcoming difficulties; their prickly stems symbolising adversities and the flower representing the reward one can reap when persistent. For others, they represent passion and love. Roses have featured prominently in art and literature for centuries and now appear on this spectacular fabric as classic rosettes, in a bold repeating pattern.

Leaf Print Curtain Fabric

Leaves have long held symbolism in many cultures, with different varieties and colours representing hope, revival, peace, and growth. Molly's range of leaf print fabrics has taken inspiration from her walks in the Sussex countryside and is perfect for adding movement and vitality into any room.

Mini Burchetts

Based on Molly’s tree pattern wallpaper, this fabric features small repeating trees with a detailed branch and leaf design. It is printed onto a 55% linen 45% cotton blend and based on an original hand-blocked print.

Oak

Oak is a whimsical pattern based on the majestic oak trees that are prominent in the natural surroundings of Molly’s home. The fabric depicts an asymmetrical oak leaf, which was plucked from the ground and traced into Molly's sketchbook, and a cute acorn in an earthy autumnal hue.

Fern

The fern design of this fabric started as pressed leaves that Molly had added to her journal, following one of the many strolls she had had in the local countryside. The fabric features long, thin silhouettes of the recognisable hardy, evergreen leaves, complete with a meandering midrib and feather-like blades.

Molly Mahon Forest Green fabric upholstered on an armchair

Forest

This fabric is a celebration of Ashdown Forest which is where Molly calls home. It uses colour as the background, making use of the white space in the design to bring the leaves to life. It is available in three chirpy colours: pink, green and blue.

Abstract Curtain Fabric

Just like other abstract art styles, Molly's hand-blocked contemporary curtain fabric uses lines, shapes, and colours to represent nature and the architecture that she has seen throughout her trips to India. Our abstract curtain fabrics are a great way to play with patterns and add energy and emotion to your décor.

Dash

Dash is a modest graphic design, but this does not detract from how utterly eye-catching it is. In true abstract fashion, so many different things can be seen when looking at the fabric. It has an architectural feel that mimics overlapping brickwork but can also easily be interpreted as chain links, pulley mechanisms or screen walls.

Garden Path

Garden path uses lines and stripes to celebrate the British countryside. The variations in the width and texture of each line are captivating and give the pattern a softer feel when compared to the perfectly straight lines often seen in geometric abstract art. It is available in three colourways, midnight/sky, copper/rose and iron/rose.

Luna

Luna is a mesmerising pattern that cleverly uses light and dark. The design includes cylindrical shapes with drops of white and pops of contrasting colour.

Seed

This delightful design is akin to the much-loved polka dot but has less uniformity and more life. As its name suggests, it denotes hope and new beginnings, which makes it ideal when looking for curtain fabric as part of a room renovation.

Sun Rise

Combining circular shapes with stripes, Molly’s sun rise fabric is a nod to each new day and the rhythm of nature. It can almost be seen to depict the rising of the sun in the sky against a background of ploughed fields.

Unusal Curtain Fabric

With every person on this Earth being unique and having their own tastes, it makes sense that some will want to break the mould when it comes to how they decorate their home! Our unusual curtain fabrics make it easy to create colourful, vibrant spaces with a sure-fire talking point.
